Poplar, Bocote, Steel

Gravity is a piece of sculpture that was made partly at Penland School of Crafts in NC, and partly at San Diego State University in CA. The piece has a strong physical presence that is heightened by a visual tension created through its interaction with the wall. The poplar sphere is hollow and was turned on the lathe. The bocote supports that attach the piece to the wall were created using a controlled free-form bending technique.
